  1. Cable TV providers are famous for charging consumers for channels we don't need or want. Ala carte pricing would allow people to choose what they do and don't want, and only pay for what they use.

  3. Congress needs to publish who did what to which bills when. If a congressman won't publicly stand by a change to a law, then perhaps that change doesn't belong. Allowing members to comment on the change would also help. The overall goal should be to encourage transparency, and to eliminate people "slipping in" last minute changes.

  4. Our so called "lawmakers" have been operating outside of the laws of the USA, laws of Congress many times, & outside of international law: indeed, Robert Gates just stated (head of Dept of Defense) there IS no international law! Golly, is that the reason for so much civil unrest? The Corps with the backing of the USA politicians who drill & kill; rule & ruin country after country like currently in the Congo; where justice has fled as well: cuz like our "politicians" said: you can do whatever you want & never be brought to justice for it; we've gotten…

  5. The Gov is currently a "tool" of the Corps; like the recent "law" passed stating they no longer had to list ingredients on labels, that passed in 3 minutes! bipartisan! mandate! so: it's (to the tune of hello dolly!) hello pesticides, well hello pesticides its so good to have you going down my throat! Golly gee, don't you see fellas that the Pharma gets 600,000 xs the cost of meds? Docs offices get paid 4 prescriptions written, and Corp lawyers take 2/3s of payouts! Golly gee Americans wake up and see that "free" only means free to do whatever any…

  7. If we can spend all of these billions of dollars a year on a war, why can't we do the same for education. That should be the law...whatever we spend on the war is what we have to spend on our education system. The first thing to do is to create demand for the best people becoming the best teachers in the world. In order for this demand to happen, make the starting salary for every teacher in America $100,000 a year. Require a Master's degree. Require that the teachers are passionate for what they do. Require that they must…

  8. The Department of Homeland Security has failed to secure the network infrastructure of the US. We need to implement nationwide intrusion detection systems, trojan, virus, and botnet hunting mechanisms. This suggestion is similar to "Protect the internet by requiring ISPs to stop botnets". Just try to get the FBI to investigate a "pump and dump" cam. They need resources and they need help from the cyberwarfare center to do it. Make it a national priority, and save us millions of man hours and billions of dollars.

  12. The governments data is the peoples data it should never be hostage to a proprietary format, and a Service Oriented Architecture has the best chance of providing the kind of integration many of these suggestions want/need.

  13. The government should be looking for the best and brightest..not the ones that are left over...they should spend whatever it takes and operate like a startup! Reward these people with a salary plus equity so they'll be incentivized to create new developments instead of stagnate in their government secured roles.

  14. As Stephen Hawking has called for, America and the world need to move toward colonizing and exploring space. I don't expect this movement to be close to completion by the time Obama leaves office, but progress should be made while we can.

  16. It seems like people here don't get it. This is the CTO, Chief Technology Officer. He cannot change legislation, free the POW at GITMO, or walk on water.

The CTO will make decisions regarding the use of technology for the government. Reform in many existing departments might be a start, but it's up to those departments to engage the CTO.

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is the key to running the government effectively.

  17. Too Much redundancy exists among all Fed Agencies today. Hundred of millions of dollars can be saved by reducing the redundancy as this will reduce dispartiy and lead to improved results from the Feds to the people it serves. This is a big deal. Why shouldn't the Fed not run like any other business?

  20. Start looking into the future, because self-driving cars are going to be a reality. Look into creating legislation on who can own and operate these cars. Once this becomes a reality in the U.S., new laws and new forms of insurance will have to be created. Will these vehicles have a manual override feature? Mark my words this November 13rh, 2008; the self-driving car will be a reality that we may not be ready for.
