Make energy independence within 10 years a national priority
We lead the world in technology. What powers our technology? Energy! One of the reasons we have been a world leader in technology is because we have had inexpensive sources of energy.
By developing new technology for sustainable and renewable sources of energy, we gain independence from the whims of those who would manipulate our economy by limiting our access to traditional carbon-based sources of energy. The influence of small groups of people, who seek to control the bulk of the world’s energy sources, shrinks as we shift to the technology of renewable sources of energy. Their influence on world events wanes and eventually disappears.
We can market the new technology of sustainable and renewable energy to others in the world, thereby increasing our exports to other countries and nations. Our trade deficit shrinks as our GDP grows.
By declaring this a national priority, our nation will shift its attention towards this goal. We will focus our resources (educational, financial, and human) on accomplishing this initiative. This happened in the 1960's when John F. Kennedy declared our intention to go to the moon. We will feel a new sense of pride in the U.S.A.
We will jumpstart our economy. Jobs will grow in this industry very quickly. Our manufacturing will grow. We can retrain the out-of-work auto workers and other affected groups so they can become employed again. Our “rust belts” become “energy belts.” Our whole economy will grow with renewed vigor. Our technology leaps ahead as we reduce the cost of energy.
Spin-offs will occur. Things that seem impossible now will be possible. New things will be created that do not exist now. This has happened in our past whenever we, as a nation, have shifted our national focus towards a concentrated goal. Again, this happened in the 1960’s with the race to the moon.
The world economy responds in kind as other nations become involved in creating new technology for non-carbon based forms of energy. The technology of the world leaps ahead. Healthy competition occurs which makes the world more energy efficient.
The worry of us running out of energy is eliminated, creating a stable climate for growth. The world climate improves as carbon-based forms of generating energy are phased out. Peoples’ health and longevity increase.
