social security- reward for those who give it back
Many people receive social security without needing it. Why not reward those who wish to give it back? It would relieve pressures on the system. Perhaps a reward in the form of
a benefit credit towards inheritance taxes.
Thus, it would be a way for the rich to give more to their children and grandchildren.3 votes -

National Service Agenda
More Americans should be involved in governance, such as Teach for America, Vista Volunteers, National Parks maintenance along with international efforts to end poverty, hunger, disease, and conflict.
Service is important for everyone, and we should make it easy to do the right thing and get engaged with civic and community life.

Should Obama "Call to Action" To help our local schools?
People are ready to mobilize.
The schools need our help now!
Teachers need resources & help with over-sized and/or unruly classes.
We can start building relationships with local public schools and school boards now that can translate into immediate assistance during the economic downturn --- (i.e., fundraising, mentorships, teacher support)
We don't have to wait for a tax credit.

Create technologies that make useful comptuers
I come from the world of technology doing several startups (all sucessful) as well as working at Apple and Microsoft of both core operating system designs. I believe we need to invest in technologies that actually make computers and related devices useful for those that have no technology background. 1) creation of languages that do not have a programming paradigm 2) semantic intelligence and predictive analytics 3) grid computing ... The list is endless. The goal would be to never hear "I don't do computers". Well people do television for better or worse and the Internet is the new television;…

De-Centralize energy profit centers.
Put solar and/or wind generation capacity on every users site that matches the potential kilowat consumption, utilizing the existing grid to transport the power with no need for new transmission lines. If the wires can hanldle the load coming in, they could handle at least that Load plus more going out.

regional and organic agriculture
Agribusiness grew out of left-over chemicals from the bomb making business of World War II. We need to re-regionalize and localize agriculture and invest in soil building to improve fertility, prevent soil erosion and grow healthy, organic food. By growing food in regionally, through investment in small farms rather than in the massive agribusiness that controls our food supply today we will improve the environment and the health of our citizens. We will help to solve the energy crisis and global warming by not transporting food the average of 1500 miles each item now travels. Read Michael Pollan's Farmer in…

raising taxes will put me out of a job
You said you were going to raise the taxes on the rich. It won't hurt the rich, but it will hurt everyone they do business with, like me.
By raising taxes on the rich, you will only alleviate them the guilt of having money.
The rich expect you are going to raise taxes on them, so they are already cutting back.3 votes -
Mortgage and housing crisis solutions
The mortgage and housing crisis is deepening with the onset of winter. Foreclosures are happening now. Evictions are happening now. What's needed are ways to reassure banks that value will eventually be realized from these homes without evicting their current occupants. For instance, government help guaranteed to the current residents to refit to save energy and water bills, including prepayments perhaps to the bank and contractors. With lower utility bills they can carry the mortgage.
You'd be amazed how many families still have incandescent lights, uninsulated water heaters, unsmart thermostats, old showerheads, not to mention lack of basement exterior insulation…

Workers' Rights
Workers' rights to organize unions and engage in free collective bargaining have been virtually eliminated over the last 35 years. The National Labor Relations Act in its present form makes it easy for employers to harass and fire organizers and intimidate employees via long-drawn-out elections, lax enforcement, on-the-job propaganda meetings, and outright thuggery. The Employee Free Choice Act, contrary to corporate and GOP lies, protects workers' right to choose but makes it easy for them to select a collective bargaining agent via signing a card and placing it in a locked box. If a simple majority of the employees sign,…

Global Warming
Since we started to use fire, we emitted carbon dioxide into the air we breathe. Stone Age farmers may have even averted a minor ice age through deforestation and with fires – as some data suggest. However, with industrial revolution we tapped deeply into nature’s safe storages for carbon – safe storages the nature was creating since the beginning of the life on this planet. And the whole life on this planet depends on safety of these storages. We have opened Pandora’s Box…
I doubt that there are many left who did not hear about phenomenon called global warming. Many…3 votes
