standardize on Ruby on Rails for custom web app development

There's a reason that Ruby on Rails dominates the world of custom web application development: it's a best-of-breed technology with massive uptake by some of the brightest, most enthusiastic open-source people behind it.

    Ditto that the top should not mandate the details when it comes to the fluid, chaotic, and ever-changing world of web app dev.

    Ruby on Rails? I believe the correct spelling is Django. :) Seriously though, it is never good to mandate certain technologies from the top down. The best technology should be chosen to solve a particular task; mandating Ruby on Rails is no better than mandating .NET and Oracle across an enterprise.

    Mandate open protocols, don't pre-select technology.
