DTV Transition's Negative Impact: elderly & underserved
When the mandated Feb. 17, 2009 Transition to Digital Television comes into play, we will have a Communication Crisis on our hands. Of the 35 million Americans that have one or more TVs with either rabbit ears or roof top antennas, a disproportionate number will be the elderly, minorities, disable, and rural. Currently, of the 30 million coupons issued for $40 off through the government program for the digital converter boxes, 10 million have already expired, with no recourse to re-apply. As we are now in the last 100 days before Feb. 17, 2009 - a digital disaster is on the horizon. This technological travesty will be dropped in the lap of the new administration with no time to find viable solutions to the underserved communities. Our non profit at transition2dtv dot org is a grassroots organization trying to make a difference. Press conference at the National Press Club December 1, 2008 at 9am. Let's make a change!
