Add TV Content Labeling to the new Digital TV data streams
Companies cannot send offensive mail into your home without a wrapper and a notice describing what is inside. Why should TV broadcasts be any different? With the new digital technology, part of the data stream for the programs could be used to put mandatory tags on what that picture frame contains. Sort of like bar codes on each scene you view and each advertisement. Government and industry would come up with standards for these codes. Then programmable units can be built to accept cards or transfers from PC's that will cause the screen and sound to go blank or display a screen saver image if material like profanity or sexual activity is being broadcast. Other uses for this tagging system would be to have smart TV's save for instance, all automobile ads for a period of time so that you could review them at your leisure if you were in the market for a car. Or you could save all programs related to broadcast segments on a certain disease. In this regard, the TV system would finally be able to be used like we use the internet for searches on topics. Plus, parents could finally REALLY regulate what their children were being exposed to. I am a former NASA and NOAA scientist who worked with data telemetry and computer programming, so I know that this technology could be developed. Wouldn't it be great if kids could watch their favorite football team without being bombarded by beer commercials? PLEASE SUPPORT THIS IDEA! It will enable many US technology companies to sell new innovative products throughout the world, thus helping our economy while giving parents a valuable tool to help raise their children and counter the programming of our children to eat sweets, drink beer, and so forth.
