Reform U.S. Currency!
With gradual inflation, the dollar today will buy what a dime would buy in the 1950s and soon it will worth a 1950s penny. Our currency has become obsolete and dysfunctional. Originally durable coins were meant for daily monetary exchanges and fragile bills for less frequent transactions. Now the penny and nickel are worth less than the metal they contain. Coins have become a valueless nuisance, good only for the ritual of making "exact change." We need to reform our currency.
Here are several solutions:
Create a new 21st century dollar worth 10 or 100 times the value of our current dollar and make new coins and bills of comparable value.
Recognizing that the dime has the value of the 1950s penny, eliminate the penny and nickel and make the dime the smallest coin, with coins running from 1/10th dollar to 10 dollars, and bills from $20 up.
Recognizing that the dollar will soon be worth only a 1950s penny, eliminate all fractions of the dollar and make coins running from $1 to $100, and bills from $200 up.
