    Yes, pure science should be funded. I would re-define the statement 'blind funding for good ideas should be the basis for how we enable pure research'. I would say that funding needs to be given to those who are willing to question the foundations upon which our science is based upon. There are so many foundational problems, for example, in the area of physics research that pass unexamined simply because there is no funding to support it. Foundations of quantum mechanics and quantum effects of macroscopic systems need to go onto the table of study if we are to further our theoretical knowledge of the physical world.
