An error occurred while saving the comment wware commentedX Prizes are a very good idea. Where a clear profit motive is apparent, the private sector can generate worthwhile prize amounts. Government sponsored X Prizes are needed only where there isn't a visible near-term profit motive. Not saying it's a bad idea, just saying that government should delegate to the private sector where it works to do so.

An error occurred while saving the comment wware commentedRobinC wrote "encourage development of an open source mesh". Cool idea. Create an abstraction layer that differentiates real versus simulated meshes. Developers should be able to run a simulated mesh locally on a laptop, or participate in a shared simulated mesh. The real mesh will require security measures but the simulated mesh won't.

An error occurred while saving the comment wware commentedI hope "structure this data" means adding machine-readable markup, and keeping docs at sensible stable locations, so people can easily write programs to search them, annotate them (not on the originals), etc. Transparency good, machine-readable transparency better.

An error occurred while saving the comment wware commentedLinux and BSD are also secure. Mandating one OS (Mac over Windows) may not be as good as setting up a consultant for govt agencies that can make informed recommendations. If we're gonna mandate something, let's mandate open formats for government documents, e.g. those used by OpenOffice.
This suggestion never got any traction, so in spite of still liking the idea, I'll use my votes somewhere more productive. At least he's announced he'll close Guantanamo.
