An error occurred while saving the comment badger commentedBetter suggestion: eliminate software patents and any patents which effectively monopolize scientific knowledge. Yes, this would probably invalidate a ton of biotech patents, but science and society would be better off, and profiteers would have to find something other to do than whine about "time to market" concerns.

Why waste resources manning an operation which, through its imposition of artificial monopolies, just promotes inefficiency, bureaucracy and waste whilst stifling competition and innovation? If you wanted to stop software getting written and new stuff getting done then, yes, you'd re-employ programmers as patent examiners. Is a software industry full of patent clerks really desirable? I doubt it.
