Restore NASA's SETI program
In 1992, the U.S. government funded an operational SETI program, in the form of the NASA "Microwave Observing Program (MOP)". After some time, MOP eventually drew the attention of the U.S. Congress, where the program was strongly ridiculed, and was canceled a year after its start.
Since then, SETI research has been based in private funding, non-profit organizations and donations from individuals and corporations.
The great popularity of the SETI@home program showed that people are willing to contribute with the resources they have available to this cause. Over 5 million computer users in more than 200 countries have signed up…

Extend range of Paratransit services past county boundaries
Disabled people are limited to commute within our county's Paratransit service borders, which limits us to job opportunities, and/or social activities to within our own county.
Paratransit services should extend into adjacent counties, and if a county within one state borders a county within another state, the disabled passanger(s) should be able to cross state lines in either direction with just one Paratransit service instead of having to transfer / make double reservations with another State and County Paratransit service (if it exists at all in the other state's county).
Life is difficult enough for people with disabilities; let's do…

Make Military Hospitals Veterans Hospitals too
I spent 4 years in Camp Lejuene, NC, had to go to the base hospital a few times, and it was always empty, like a ghost town. Meanwhile, thousands of vets can't get care in the VA Hospital system. Why not make military hospitals available to vets too?

Hire/retain IT talent : make gov IT cool!
We need e-gov to work, and to do that we need e-government workers. We need some people in government to understand these technologies...and right now its almost impossible to hire and retain this talent. This is a big problem.
CTO should authorize whatever investment/changes are needed to help attract and help agencies compete for IT tallent
We need to tap the ethic of government service/saving the planet/country and working on BIG problems.

Promote Esperanto as the International Language
Esperanto in an created language made with the specific intent to be easy to learn, and to be the primary secondary language for international community. It is very easy to learn and is a language that is currently supported by the UN and Google, as well as other international organizations. It is devoid of national and cultural associations and will be less likely to change once accepted like French did to English following World War II (if I remember correctly).
The basics can easily be learned in a semester or two and studies have shown that those who learn it…2 votes -

Promote Computing Diversity
Bigness and a computer monoculture are threats to national security. When almost everyone is running the same operating system it is all to easy for a hostile foreign power to create an exploit that could swiftly bring our economy to a halt. Too many resources are required to protect this fragile system. Maintaining this near monopoly also stifles innovation as change is seen as a threat, not an opportunity, and after the threat is defeated there is no incentive for the monopolist to innovate at all. If the lazy monopolist later runs into trouble they are declared "too big to…

Strengthen growing companies; Stop Funding $ to old Failures
The Finance companies, GM and the automakers, and other failures were part of an old era. Let them fail. The idea that “they’re too big to fail”, has got to stop.
We are in a new era now. Strengthen growing companies; if we give $$ to GM and the Financials, it will just prolong the agony and we'll never see that money again.1 vote -
