  2. The current NewsWeek (mid-January) indicates the Obama team might tilt toward "the same old, same old" via tax incentives to incumbents like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast. Seemingly no awareness of the "open fiber" (to the premise) model shown so effective in EU and elsewhere. Worrisome!

  3. Add some more technical classes in community colleges that American Information Technology workers can take. These should not just be beginner levels but also advance courses.

  4. I come from the world of technology doing several startups (all sucessful) as well as working at Apple and Microsoft of both core operating system designs. I believe we need to invest in technologies that actually make computers and related devices useful for those that have no technology background. 1) creation of languages that do not have a programming paradigm 2) semantic intelligence and predictive analytics 3) grid computing ... The list is endless. The goal would be to never hear "I don't do computers". Well people do television for better or worse and the Internet is the new television;…

  5. Many people receive social security without needing it. Why not reward those who wish to give it back? It would relieve pressures on the system. Perhaps a reward in the form of
a benefit credit towards inheritance taxes.
Thus, it would be a way for the rich to give more to their children and grandchildren.

  7. Track bicycles using gps and use data to give cyclists a cash credit for all kms cycled (rather than using Carbon creating transport methods). Cash credit equivalent to a subsidised rate (employers/city government) and the actual rate of Carbon traded on International Markets. Use income to create overseas carbon offsetting to further reduce emissions worldwide

  8. We need to get with the program and make physician assisted suicide an acceptable procedure nationwide. It's sad that, short of Ohio and Washington, we do not give the dignity that we give to the common dog. Ohio and Washington are the only states to have adopted physician assisted suicide as an acceptable state policy. Other countries have already done so - Switzerland, Belgium, Luxumburg, and Andalucia (Spain). We need to join the program and make it national.

  9. Restructure the EPA to include environmental leaders and green technology companies so that it can become an innovative results driven agency rather than just a regulatory one. It will still need to regulate industries but it also should provide programs, incentives and development direction to help them go green. Using recyclable grocery bags is just not going to get it done.

  10. With gradual inflation, the dollar today will buy what a dime would buy in the 1950s and soon it will worth a 1950s penny. Our currency has become obsolete and dysfunctional. Originally durable coins were meant for daily monetary exchanges and fragile bills for less frequent transactions. Now the penny and nickel are worth less than the metal they contain. Coins have become a valueless nuisance, good only for the ritual of making "exact change." We need to reform our currency.
    Here are several solutions:

Create a new 21st century dollar worth 10 or 100 times the value of our…

  11. We have a challenge in our country - Millions of jobs are going away. We have some of the most innovative businesses in the world within our borders, we also have some of the most innovative minds in the world. Some of which will be out of work either now or in the not too distant future. This of course doesn't count the millions who are uncertain about what the future of the job that currently have will be, or are working in a job that has no future, no hope.

What we need is a forum (initially perhaps as…

  12. Lifespan - A Resource- and Energy-Efficient Multi-use Bridge Concept

A major focus of the new administration is the repair of the nation’s crumbling infrastructure, including much needed bridge replacements. Rather than simply replacing the current bridge structures with ones that merely fulfill the function of conveying vehicles, a more efficient and creative solution would be to design structures that serve multiple functions. At http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plNsDEPyprk is a Youtube video presentation detailing a concept known as Lifespan which combines a bridge structure with a multi-use high-rise.

The concept’s rationale is that land required for multi-use structures could be spared by combining dwelling,…

  13. The Russians spent nine expensive, deadly, unsuccessful years in a futile effort to win friends and influence people. They finally left with their tails between their legs. Let us not get caught in the same kind of predicament in Afganistan!!!

  14. Anyone who will retire in the next 5 years can receive SS as scheduled.
Anyone who will retire between 5-10 years are required to work 2 more years before getting SS payments.
Anyone who will retire more than 11 years in the future are required to work 5 more years before getting SS payments.

This is simple and fair - people are living decades beyond retirement age now. Lets get her done it's a no brainer!

  16. Currently, the largest holder of spectrum in the US is not industry, but the Federal, State, and Local governments. Terrestrial use of this spectrum varies from walkie talkie applications over VHF to animal tracking. All of these applications use disparate, proprietary, and low spectral efficiency access technologies.

Use of IP based broadband networks, such as LTE or WiMAX, where IP is the unifying protocol, will allow for IP based applications to be used/built for the Government. The applications become a function of software, rather than hardware, and can use COTS devices more readily and in less expensive manners than special…

    1. The wealth of the nation stands on the foundation of personal liberty.
    2. Government agencies are now running unchecked and amok as historical constitutional constraints have been laid aside.
    3. The populace increasingly fears the government with good reason. Civil action against government, out of fear or in self defense, abrogates progress in many basic areas. As a country we will increasingly tear ourselves apart, handing victory to those that we seek to defend ourselves from.

  18. Discrimination is not innovation.

Asserting that foreign IT workers are needed because Americans lack the necessary skill has no support in reality. Obama comes off no different than a plantation owner from the old south who said Africans were needed because the locals didn't make good slaves.

Stop the discrimination against American workers. Stop directing American jobs to foreigners. There is no justification from taking the ability of Americans to earn an income away from them.
