  1. A form is most often a constituent's first introduction to government. As such, a government form should be attractive, functional, ease the pain for constituents to submit information, and make use of the most advanced technologies at hand. In America, all agencies in the US Government host forms on the government Web sites.

Currently, almost half (48.8% as of December 2008) of all government forms are not fillable requiring a constituent to download the form, hand fill-in and fax the form back to the host agency (an archaic workflow).

In addition, many government forms are pathetic in design. Many forms…

  2. new jobs, helping the steel industry, would be a benefit of more and longer guard rails on our roads. Also rest area's with more parking for truck and trailer's ( if you want them of the road biuld places to park them ). Not much training for new worker's with this idea.

  4. I found a savings stamps book from WW II. Buy $18.75 worth of stamps and turn it in to get a $25
Series E War Bond. We could do this to finance our present wars or finance the bail-out, or something like the conservation corp.

  6. The Interent is an essential part of modern economic and social life. The security of this ubiquitous network has long been neglected by the White House. The CTO must take an aggressive role in developing ways to protect the infrastructure and architecture of the Internet while preserving it as a free and open forum for commerce and communication. This topic is a place to raise ideas for Internet protection.

  10. Seems an good first step to cover health care for small companies and self employed folks would be to require that any company providing health care for government employees, offer the same program for anyone wanting to sign up. The whole infrastruture is in place now. The insurance companies would need to set their prices knowing that they would have to possibly cover anyone for the same price they are bidding for government contracts. And some restrictions would apply for when you could start or switch coverage. But in essence, as far as insurance coverage goes, regular citizens would be…

  11. Build that "information superhighway" to every American school. Each school needs real, high-speed, broadband connections and wireless support which can enable students to use laptops. handhelds, and mobile phones to bring information and communications access to every student. We need to train our students in the use of 21st Century Technology, and how to leverage that technology for education, in jobs, to overcome disabilities and disadvantages, and to improve democracy.

We can join this to a Universal Design Technology initiative which insists that our schools use the ubiquitous technologies of the age to support student learning. From free text-to-speech systems…

  12. As we step back and take a look at our failing economy we might ask ourselves "Why did this happen?" Many of our economic problems were due to credit companies granting credit/loans to people who have had bad credit and poor money management skill.
Instituting a mandatory money management class that would run the 10th thru 12th grade would teach students the value of having a good credit score and what to expect when they get their first credit card..
In order to graduate from high school students would need to demonstrate the ability to successfully manage a financial account.

  14. The Iraq War has cost us around $500 billion since it started in 2003. In that same time frame, our trade deficit with China has cost us over $1.1 trillion dollars, around twice the cost of the war. We cannot send over hundreds of billions of dollars a year to China and expect to have a healthy economy.

  16. there's some amount of non-relative positioning which is causing text overwrites in Firefox when i set a minimum font size that makes my display legible. these text overwrites make your front page mostly unusable. all goernment (and civic) websites should standardize on a very-accessible and highly-debugged CSS template.

  18. Copyrights are important to photographers and the orphan works act creates a legal loophole that would allow anyone to use your photographs posted on the internet without compensation. Imagine your family photos being used to sell a embarrasing product because they say they couldn't find the photographer..

  20. Our taxes are paying for healthcare for all Americans right now -- emergency room visits. We must provide comprehensive healthcare to everyone NOW to keep our population healthier and out of emergency rooms. Like Japan's model, the coverage would be the same for everyone -- those who cannot pay don't have to -- those who can pay a percentage of their income each month.
